About Us

The Cooperative World Map (CWM) is an interactive and up-to-date digital map that aspires to unite and showcase all cooperative entities in the world. The CWM is an up-to-date visual representation of all cooperative enterprises in the world who have voluntarily shared their data to be part of this accessible and open digital platform. This platform is powered by the Cooperative World Data Project, an initiative that developed the open-source mapping and sharing technology. Here, cooperatives have a common digital hub to connect, share information, promote the strength of the cooperative model, and increase awareness on the benefits of cooperation.

Our mission is to strengthen the global cooperative movement by enabling connections, sharing resources, and promoting the values of cooperation. We seek to educate and inspire communities about the benefits of cooperation for a more equitable and sustainable world.

The data is fresh, and can be used to create high quality digital products and services that can benefit the cooperative movement. Interested in starting an online marketplace? Do you need to create an AI community of practice to help you achieve your 5-year strategic business plan? The CWM’s rich data can help create myriad solutions.

The data is managed by Identity.coop and Digital Commons Cooperative have formed the DC Alliance, to manage all the data, and also relationships with the data partners to make sure the data sharing system works, and the technology powering the map continuously improves.

Cooperatives are everywhere! The CWM shows the reach and influence of cooperatives worldwide, big and small. Cooperatives can be found by name, sector or type, through user-friendly search functionalities. Each cooperative entity on the map is discoverable, increasing their visibility and understanding of their impact in all sectors and regions.

The data is provided by a network of membership partners, who share their information in a number of ways, either directly through automated processes, or through the regular contribution of periodic updates on information. All of this means the data is a maximum of three months old, and the aim is to get the data refreshed even more frequently than that.

It is now easy for cooperatives to find each other, and to share, learn and celebrate with each other. This will facilitate collaboration and ultimately increase the role cooperatives play in the global economy.

The CWM initiative is a collaborative effort between DotCooperation and Digital Commons Cooperative, to provide useful, current and cohesive data on cooperatives that can be accessed from one location. We work alongside our data partners and supporters to create valuable resources for the global cooperative community.
